Welcome to our August Customer Newsletter

As we deal with the day to day business of running our organisations, it’s easy to overlook some of the great milestones we achieve.

This year, General Systems celebrates 20 years as a Channel Partner for SunSystems, and I would like to thank all of our clients past and present for helping us achieve such a significant milestone.

We have seen a number of changes over the years, and as our clients’ needs and demands have changed, we have adapted to ensure that we provide the support and solutions that help you get the best out of your solutions.

With the advent of Infor over 2 years ago, we saw a significant increase in solutions and benefits for our clients. General Systems still has its foundations firmly in SunSystems solutions, but we are now able to offer a full range of Corporate Performance Management tools, Asset Management solutions and a comprehensive range of Procurement and Document Management solutions.

This flexibility is only possible because of the skills and experience of the people who work at General Systems, and the partnerships we have developed over the years with our clients is a testament to their professionalism and skills

Thank you again for your support and I look forwards to working with you over the next 20 years!

Frank Coyle MD

Business Continuity Planning – What’s it all about?

Challenging Times

Twelve months is a long time in business.

Twelve months ago, fuel prices were fairly stable and Northern Rock was simply another bank. We’ve had to learn a whole new language with phrases like Sub Prime and Stagflation popping up every day. It makes for interesting times in business, and helps us focus on some key issues which don’t seem so important in less challenging times.

• Organisations that have visibility over activities will remain competitive.

• Businesses who manage their costs will be leaner and make better use of their resources.

In improving these areas, the role of the finance team is key. As the main data users, we should be looking at the work involved in gathering and distributing information and the costs involved. A key target should be to gather data accurately and quickly so that we can better advise the business on key decisions.

Challenging times should encourage us to be more focused on our business and we should be able to respond quickly and flexibly to changing conditions

At General Systems we have worked successfully with a number of clients over recent months to streamline processes and reduce overall costs, and we will be highlighting some of these successes in our workshop and seminar program.

For more information on these, and news from General Systems, please do keep an eye on our website (www.generalsystems.co.uk) which is regularly updated.

In the meantime, if you would like to talk to us about how we can help you stay ahead of the competition, then please contact myself or any of my colleagues.

SQL 2000 not Supported by Microsoft?
Yes, that’s right. Microsoft’s mainstream support for SQL 2000 ended on 08/04/2008 and unless you took out extended Support, prior to that date, your SQL server is not supported by Microsoft.

Don’t Panic! Just because Microsoft has ended Mainstream support does not mean SQL 2000 will fail to function, after all it has been around for quite some time now.

General Systems will continue to Support your finance applications on SQL 2000, but if there are any other applications on the database, perhaps you should consider contacting the vendors to ensure they are still supporting you on SQL 2000?

If you have any doubts about SQL 2000 and your finance applications, in the first instance speak to you IT support staff. They can contact General Systems on the number below and we will be happy to give advice. We have a full SQL 2000 – 2005 upgrade plan and can advise on compatible versions of Operating Systems, SunSystems, Vision and associated software.

Microsoft Vista and SunSystems \ Vision
Many organisations are looking at upgrading their desktop operating systems to Vista. Prior to making any purchase or decisions please contact our Support Department for advice.

• Provide office space and all facilities for up to 5 key staff
• We are able to restore your data to our servers from media (by arrangement)
• Provide Client machines
• Redirect telephone numbers & fax machines to our offices
• Recover SunSystems, Vision and associated software within 1 working day of receipt of media
• Get you back in business!

We would need some information from you regarding the media, so a registration for this service is required. Registration is Free.
